Actions Button - Import and Export Region Boundary Files
Introduction
The SafeZone Regions menu allows your organization to efficiently manage SafeZone in the following ways:

Areas of management
Where alerts should be visible to your response team, where people should be able to check-in etc... -
Response protocol
When configured as part of a Region Group certain responders can be allocated to receive alerts from that particular area -
Automations
Entering or exiting a region while checked-in can automatically trigger notifications. Additionally alerts raised in specific Regions by people in certain User Groups, on specified schedules can trigger notifications to supervisors or other groups. -
Reporting
Understand how many alerts and check-ins have been raised in one region versus another for operational insights.
Regions Menu Overview
The Regions menu displays all regions in alphabetical order by Region Group and Region. To help order Region Groups it is best practice to add a number to the Region Group name so that the most common ones (e.g. for a main campus) are at the top.
The table contains a the name of the Region as a clickable Hyperlink to take you to its configuration page in addition to the following information:

Alliance | Icon displayed if the region in a SafeZone Alliance region |
Creating a New Region
To create a new Region
- Go to Admin - Zone Configuration - Regions
- Click "Create New Region"
- In the "New Region" page that appears, enter the following into the "Configuration" box
- The Region's Name
- The Region's Priority
Note: Higher Numbers denote a higher priority for the region and if two regions overlap the highest priority number's escalation / alert process is followed. - Whether it is a "Test Region" where only red button alerts go to Responders
- Whether it is a SafeZone Alliance Region (note if this is selected other options are automatically greyed out.
- Select the region boundary for the area by first double-clicking on the map
- On the map you will see a square on screen with corners marked with solid white circles and the edges between them with translucent circles.
- To move existing corners, click and drag on the solid circles
- To create new corners, click and drag on the translucent circles to create a new vertex (this can be repeated to create more vertices as required)
- Click "Save" to confirm or "Cancel" to go back to the Regions page.
Tips:
- You can use the search icon in the top-right to fly to a location on the map (e.g. a building or city)
- For complex geofences, work clockwise from 12 o'clock to trace the boundary by creating new vertices.
- You can switch between Map and Satellite views with the buttons in the top left to help visualise the area you are covering.
- You can either use the zoom buttons in the bottom-left of the screen or the mouse wheel to zoom in and out in the map.
Actions Button - Import and Export Region Boundary Files
Where you want to import or export region file coordinates the actions button lets you manage the data. Example use cases:
- Importing boundaries from 3rd party sources
- Creating a back-up of your region area config
- Duplicating an existing region to make it an alliance region of the same boundaries
Exporting Region Boundaries
To export region boundaries
- Go to Admin - Zone Configuration - Regions
- Click the Action button at the top-right of the screen and select "Export Boundaries"
- You will be taken to a region selection page where you can check which regions you would like to export
- After checking the relevant boxes, click the "Export 'n' Regions" button.
- You will receive a confirmation message and a JSON file will be created in your computer's downloads folder.
Importing Region Boundaries
You can import a JSON file with geographic coordinates which was generated through the above "Export Region Boundaries" tool. To import the file:
- Go to Admin - Zone Configuration - Regions
- Click the Action button at the top-right of the screen and select "Import Boundaries"
- You will be taken to a file selection window where clicking the "Select File" button allows you to choose the JSON to import.
- After selecting the file through your browser, you will receive a confirmation message and can click the proceed arrow to continue
- You will be shown a confirmation page which will offer you the options to overwrite or skip any existing regions.
- Click "import" to confirm and a confirmation page on actions performed will be displayed
Important Note:
Creating a region through this method only imports the name and the geographic reference points. You will still need to configure the region with
- Priorities
- Test region status
- Auto-check-in rules
- Indoor Positioning setup
- Floorplans and overlays
- Region Group Membership
