Overview
Desktop Notifications can be sent from Command to increase the reach of messages to desktops, laptops and other computer types in addition to SafeZone's mobile communication capabilities.
There are three main levels of notification, full screen takeover, partial pop-up notification and a rolling scrollbar. Examples are below and can have their general look and feel customized. Note setup of the desktop templates is performed outside of Command in collaboration with your Customer Success team as part of the initial setup.
Sending a desktop communication
Desktop notifications can either be sent as a template or as part of a custom activation. Either way, the configuration options are the same, the templated messages will usually just have data pre-populated which can be edited by those with appropriate permissions. The below is written assuming a custom activation with no dataset in advance for completeness.
- Go to the Notify page in Command and click "New Blank Message" (or select the template to send)
- In the "Select recipients" section:
- If just sending to desktop select "All users"
- If also sending to SMS / Push / Email / Twig / Satellite Devices, select either "All users" or "Specific user groups" as appropriate
NOTE: The desktop comms does not target groups from this section the area just needs to be populated as above, targeting comes from the "Desktop Notifications" section
- Scroll down to the "Desktop Notifications" section and tick the check-box to show the options
- Select an appropriate template for the message, this is how the message will appear on screen (e.g. full-screen takeover, scrolling ticker, pop-up, colours, etc).
-
Select the machines to target from the "Desktop Recipients" list.
Note that your organization will at least have the option for "All devices" however may have other options to target specific buildings. The targeting of buildings requires assignment rules to be setup separately with your IT Network team and the CriticalArc Customer Success team. - Select a Duration that you would like the notification to remain on screen if not acknowledged by the user or cancelled by you or someone from your communications team.
- Enter the message which you would like to appear on the screen. This would be the text underneath the "Alert!" Title for full-screen messages or the entire content of scrolling notifications.
- If you want to setup other communication channels, complete those sections now, otherwise scroll down and press "Next"
- You will see a confirmation page which will summarize what you want to send. Press "Send" to confirm or "Cancel" to go back and make further changes.
- After sending the message you will see a confirmation page which will update live on the sending status. Press the refresh
arrows to see the alert status (whether it is currently active, cancelled or completed) and to see the "Cancel Notification" button.
Cancelling a Desktop Notification
Any Active desktop notification can be cancelled at any time and remove the messages from targeted screens. This is through one of two mechanisms.
- After sending the notification pressing the refresh
arrows and then pressing the red "Cancel Notification" button after which the status will update as below.
- If you have left the live-updating page
- Go to the History page in Command and select "Notifications"
- Select the notification to cancel from the list and click "Cancel Notification" in the Desktop section to immediately send the command.
- Go to the History page in Command and select "Notifications"
