Overview
As part of a multi-channel approach to sending out emergency communications, SafeZone also supports sending messages to Garmin InReach satellite communication devices. This particular mechanism is especially useful when:
- Trying to reach people in natural disasters where major infrastructure is down (e.g. no power or cell towers)
- Trying to reach people in remote parts of the World with unstable infrastructure
- Trying to reach people in places infrastructure is not expected (at sea, deserts, wilderness)
To receive messages users must have a supported Garmin device with a plan which supports the receipt of messages and sufficient credit.
The system also needs to have the Garmin, InReach feature enabled - Speak to your Customer Success Manager about this.
Sending a message from Notify
The Inreach menu is a part of the overall notification template, or custom notification menu. (See Send a Custom "Blank" Notification or Send a Templated Notification for more information on this).
- Garmin devices should first be linked to the user either from their profile (more info here) or through the devices menu.
- Setup the group you want to target in the "Select Recipients" section of the page.
- Enable the InReach channel (and any others you need to use) and type the text in the text box.
- You can now either send the message or save the template as appropriate.
